Bringing home a rescue dog?
The 3/3/3 rule can be a good starting point:
3 days to decompress a tiny bit
3 weeks to know your routine & feel safe to have their personality come out. New challenges like chewing. jumping, or not listening occur.
3 months to really feel comfortable & at home with you. If you have worked on a good structure & routine, then it smooths out for a bit.
Bringing home a new puppy?
They are adorable but are little “land sharks” & are exhausting at first.
A good starting point is focus on:
Independence Training
Basic Cues
Potty Training
Not biting/chewing & know what is appropriate to chew on
Positive or Neutral Socialization
Good Structure & Routine
Manage and Change Behavioral Issues
Long term behavioral issues including:
Barking
Jumping
Biting/chewing
Lunging
Leash pulling
Reactivity
Resource guarding
Separation distress
These can be challenging to manage and difficult to address during in-person training. With dogs that are fearful or aggressive, adding potential additional triggers or stimulation may not benefit you or your pup.
Virtual training can be helpful to see what is going on naturally at home, asses the situation, & work with your specific needs to find a good plan.

Recall off leash in the woods can be a challenge but with lots of practice, guidance, and positive reinforcement… your pup will come running!
Leave It cue can be a life saving event or in this case, a tease with tater tots! These pups did great and Yes, they did get a bite of a tot when done…. I’m not a monster!
Spring is here and Stay is hard for any dogs but spring poses new challenges with distractions like bikes, squirrels, and lots of people. Start working on basic cues now like leave it, Recall, stay, settle, and not reacting while things are just now starting to wake up. Don't wait for summer!!!
Can cats and dogs be friends? These 2 certainly can! Gandalf is a pro at raising bottle fed kittens ❤️
